Wilderness Way was started in 1990 just outside Soldotna, AK with the goal of providing easy access to excellent sporting goods for sportsmen on the Kenai Peninsula, and quickly gained a reputation for carrying the best outdoor gear. 

In 2008, former employee and Soldotna resident Brian Richards bought Wilderness Way and moved the business to its currrent location in downtown Soldotna.  Since then the business has continued to expand into more areas of excellent outdoor gear. We're easy to find, in the old hardware store building across from Safeway in downtown Soldotna.  

 Brian  lives in Soldotna with his wife Nikiesha and two sons.  He is active in his local church and in the leadership of a local Boy Scout troop.  When he is not busy running the store or being with his family, Brian loves to be in the outdoors, using the gear he sells.  He is an avid hunter, fisherman, hiker, backpacker and archer, and has spent plenty of time in the wild country.  Come in and meet Brian at Wilderness Way.

Wilderness Way is dedicated to providing top-quality, user tested outdoor gear for hiking, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, hunting, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, archery, and many other outdoor activities.  We carry outdoor gear from many top manufacturers, including North Face, Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Osprey, MSR, Nalgene, Smith, Native, St. Croix, Browning, Sitka, Sporthill, Madshus, Wenonah, Thermarest, Sage, Granite Gear, and many others.  If you need it for the outdoors, we probably carry it!
